Zettelkasten means "note box", but it's system for organizing and generating notes. It's goal is to be an easy to search [[Personal Knowledge Management|Second Brain]]. It is a collection of atomic, integrated, and inter-linked notes generated from external sources. Zettelkasten can be used as an organizational tool in a [[Personal Knowledge Management|Personal Knowledge System]] to create a [[Digital Garden]]. A [[Zettel]] is a specific idea, or note. In the original system, there was a reference (served by the title in this), content, and a reference section. - It has the concept of an "idea" note. This is atomic. - Reference notes are a separate type of note that are used to reference books and articles. - Fleeting notes are just the standard run of the mill notes ## The Zettelkasten Process 1. Consume content! It all starts by reading 2. Make fleeting notes on the content that you consume 3. Make literature notes (summaries of what literary works are trying to say). 4. Create permanent [[Zettel]] based on these notes 5. Generate Intra-links between [[Zettel]]. 6. Revise the surrounding notes around the [[Zettel]] to include stronger links and more information learned from the other zettel. 7. Continue to expand by picking an area and finding content. Start the cycle again! ### Processing using Zettelkasten Notes aren't really useful unless you use them, so you use them like any [[Digital Garden]]. When you start working within a specific domain, I search and drill down the specific [[MOC]] if I don't know exactly what I'm looking for, or I'll start from a specific topic and look at surrounding ideas. --- # References - https://zettelkasten.de/posts/overview/ - "My simple note-taking setup" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6ySG7xYgjY - https://notes.nicolevanderhoeven.com/Zettelkasten
